M2, or the return of a giant. There are some wonderful groove compositions as well as some amazing covers: Burning Down The House (Talking Heads), Lonnie’s Lament (John Coltrane), Goodbye Pork Pie Hat (Charles Mingus). And the guest artists – wow: Herbie Hancock, Maceo Parker, Kenny Garrett, Branford Marsalis, Fred Wesley and Chaka Khan. So it makes perfect sense that M2 won the “best contemporary jazz album” at the Grammy Awards in 2002.
